If you live or teach in Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Seneca, Wayne, and Yates counties, you will be interested in joining the Central Western Section of STANYS and participating in the educational activities we offer. Activities sponsored or endorsed by CWS are listed on the calendar page of this Web site. We are particularly proud of our annual science enrichment events for students. Science Exploration Days has no equal across the state and our Science Congress is one of the few NYS regional science fairs affiliated with the International Science and Engineering Fair. For teachers, we provide an opportunity for professional development and networking at the Winter Workshop.
CWS activities are open to all science teachers and their students in the six-county area, regardless of their membership status. Nonetheless, your membership is important to the viability of the section and the continuation of section events. The rebate our section receives from the state is based on membership and membership determines our representation on the STANYS Board of Directors. We currently have two directors representing CWS.
By joining STANYS, you become a part of the primary organization that represents your profession at both the state and local levels. Full membership in STANYS costs $42 per year. Lower rates apply to students and retired teachers. Your membership includes subscriptions to the STANYS Newsletter and Bulletin, as well as the CWS Newsletter.
If you are new to the profession or have allowed your membership to lapse in
recent years, please join now! It is possible to join during any month. Click
here for an online membership form. For more information
contact Membership Chair John Holden: john.holden@greece.k12.ny.us.
School preregistration is accomplished in December. Members will find the information in the autumn CWS Newsletter or you may read the information here and download the preregistration form. For more information please contact Registrar Michael Herzog: mherzog98@frontiernet.net .
Any grade 6-12 student within the Central Western Section area (Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Seneca, Wayne, and Yates counties) may enter a project. Qualified winners may be selected to compete in the Intel Science and Engineering Fair (dependent on CWS affiliation), the Discovery Channel Young Scientist Challenge, or the STANYS State Science Congress.
Information about the competition and registration forms are found on this
website. If you need assistance contact Director Dr. Dudley: juttasd@aol.com
