The Genesee Gateway can assist your organization in obtaining your own unique domain name. We'll work with you to register your domain with the Worldwide Registry of Domain Names. We do not charge any fees for this service. However, we have negotiated with a registrar for lower registration fees for organizations that we host. Instead of the usual $70.00, we will send an invoice to your organization for $30.00 for a two-year registration period. Your first step will be to select your domain name. There are three Top Level Domains (TLDs) in which you can register: .org, .com and .net. Non-profit organizations usually register in the .org TLD, but you may register in any or all TLDs at this time. In fact, you can even register multiple domain names that all point to the same website. You will, however, have to pay for each domain name that you select. The name that you choose is limited to 67 characters, including the dot and the TLD. Characters can be letters (a-z), digits (0-9) and/or hyphens. If you choose to use a hyphen, it cannot be the first nor the last character. After you have selected a domain name, you'll need to check to make sure that it hasn't already been registered to some other organization. To do so, you should check the Shared Registry System at http://www.crsnic.net. If the answer to your selected domain name search is "No Match Found", then the name should be available. If the domain name already exists, your search results will list the name of the Registrar to which it is currently listed. You will have to choose a different domain name in that case. When you have selected your domain name and ascertained that it is available, you may then complete the following online form and we will register the domain name for you. If you still have additional questions, please send email to domainorders@ggw.org.
