Your web site needs a domain name. You have two options. 1- Use a name that you already have registered. If you have a site elsewhere and/or have already registered a domain name, you can use it with the site you have on our servers.Let us know what domain name you want to reuse. Once your site is loaded on our servers, you need to either: have your domain name registrar repoint the name servers listed for your domain to the name servers we will tell you. or work with us to have the domain name transferred to our registry and we will take care of the name servers, etc. For more information on transfer of domain name registration, please see our domain name transfer page. Then, as long as your site is on our server and paid for, we will renew the domain registration at our expense. 2- Suggest to us a domain name you would like us to register for you to use with your new site. The name must be one that is not already registered! It can be in any of the typical top level domains (TLDs)- .org, .net, .com, .info. .us, etc. If it is .edu, you will need to register it yourself. We are also unlikely to register a name in TLD that indicates your site is based in another country - .uk, for instance. Registration through our registry (and then renewal each year) of the domain name is included in our yearly fee for your site. In either case, the domain name is yours, although typically registered through us with our contact and billing information. Although we would be unhappy if in the future you decided to move your site elsewhere, we will gladly assist in the domain name transfer from our registrar to another registrar. Note that we do not as a rule, maintain registration for sites not on our servers. Note too, that if you wish an additional name pointing to the same site, additional names can be registered with a separate fee of $15/yr per extra domain name. Please mark the form (coming up in the next step) in the comments section with your special domain name requirements. You should, of course, have checked to see that your selected name is not registered to someone else already by the use of a whois server. Choosing a domain name is only part of setting up a web site. After you choose your domain name, you must then tell us to set up the web site. And you'll do that in step three, telling us what you need. |
