- DEC '96 Update from the December issue of the RRTC Newsletter Transisions "The City of Rochester underwrote the The Rochester Rail Transit Symposium to help kick off discussion on rail transit in conjunction with the City's Light Rail and Economic Development Study. The study, funded by a State grant obtained by Assemblyman David Gantt, will focus on economic development and job-access impacts of a proposed Rochester LRT line. The proposed line would run from Charlotte through downtown to the University of Rochester. The study is expected to take 9 months." - FEB '96 The study will be a two pronged project with one segment to collect and analyze information regarding the impact of a light rail tansportation line. Most likely serving the Northwest Rochester Corridor. The second facet of the project will be to determine the needs and methods to address the "reverse-commute" effect to provide transportation for City residents to reach suburban employment markets. The Genesee Transportation Council is currently conducting a transportation study that is reviewing five major corridors and best suited methods of transit for Monroe and Neighboring counties. The city's study will complement this effort by analyzing specific alternatives in selected corridors The kick-off for this study was held on Wednesday, February 28, 1996 at the City Hall at 3pm in Room 300B.
