Dear Friends,
As promised, John and I are going to keep you informed about what is
happening with the Sound Bytes program, at least with respect to the
program formerly on WXXI Rochester http://www.wxxi.org.
We have learned that the final broadcast of Sound Bytes on WXXI did
occur on November 24, 2001. A pre-recorded final broadcast for
December 1 was not, and will not be aired. Because of decisions by
WXXI management, that program will not be available to us to archive
either.
The new version of Sound Bytes http://www.soundbytes.org
is airing on WHAM-AM (1180) Rochester, a 50,000 watt station. Those
in New York, Ohio, Ontario, and possibly Pennsylvania may be able to
receive the station during the day. The program airs Saturday from
12:20 - 2:00pm.
WXXI is considering the launch of a new program dedicated to technology
sometime next year, but planning is still in progress and no timetable is
available. There are no current plans to revive a call-in program
dedicated to computer questions, however.
Bob Smith talk1370@netacc.net, host of
WXXI's Sound Bytes, sends his warmest wishes to all Sound Bytes listeners,
who cared for and supported the program's 11 year run on WXXI. Bob
continues to host Talk 1370, a weekday 2-hour call-in program covering
current events and matters of interest to our community. He invites
you to sample Talk 1370 from 12 - 2pm Monday-Friday.
John and I have offered to assist WXXI in any way should they wish to
launch a technology program in the future. In the meantime, you can
stay informed about Internet issues through two columns I write for Time
Warner's Road Runner division - Internet
Watch and Consumer
Investigation.
The archives will continue to remain here until further notice.
Please drop by from time to time as we will continue to post news here
about what is happening with the show and with WXXI.
