Candidates for Election for 2009

Treasurer
Frank Gerham Jr.

Qualifications for Office:
Member of the Finance Committee since it's inception (approx 2005), which was responsible with creating and implementing a budget for the organization. This budget is what will eventually allow us to purchase our own property. Also, chaired the committee for the Katherine Keough bench at St John Fisher College.

Reasons you want to be an Officer of the AOH:
Desire to do the job and experience gained from activities for the AOH as well as over 20 years in the financial services industry

Any specific Goals you plan as an Officer:
Keep the members informed in brief , easy to understand reports . Continue to grow assets towards buying a clubhouse of our own.

President
Brian O'Reilly

Qualifications for Office:
Member since 2006, earned Major Degree in April 2008. Current Occupation: Sales Manager directing the efforts of 23 sales reps in North America, 270 Dealerships in North & South America, Australia, Japan, Korea, and Eastern Europe. Previous experience in operations and financial management. Member of The Assumption of Our Lady parish. Graduate of St. John Fisher College, Cardinal Mooney HS, St Pius X School.

Reasons you want to be an Officer of the AOH:
I want to lend my leadership skills to the organization and become an even more active participant in the brotherhood. After attending the national convention and meeting brothers from the other divisions, I thought we could be doing so much more as an organization than we are currently.

Any specific Goals you plan as an Officer:
Parish Service: I envision a program where brothers can submit service projects from their own parishes, or any parish where they know of a need, through which we build a stronger bond with the community and each other.

College Outreach: several of our local colleges are populated with Irish Catholic students (our own kids among them). Most colleges require service hours as part of the matriculation process. Can we sponsor them and recruit them into the organization?

Community Outreach: Develop a Service Program in Monroe County through organizations like the Catholic Family Center that provide services to the elderly, immigrants, single mothers, etc.

It is time to put a more public face on the AOH. If we are to grow as an organization, we need to get more exposure in the community so Irish Catholics seek us out and want to join our ranks. We need to be more than a social club and sponsor to events.

Vice President
Jim O'Reilly

Qualifications for Office:
Division 7 member since November 2004. Practicing Catholic, Major Degree 2008, Trustee of St. Pius Tenth Church, Past Chairman of Parish Council. Took initiative to contact other Divsions in NYS to have Major Degree ceremony for our Division. This resulted in 27 Brothers receiving their Major Degree as part of the Syracuse Division's ceremony in April 2008. Former Board of Directors member of two trade associations.

Reasons you want to be an Officer of the AOH:
I want to be more involved in shaping the direction of the Division. When I join any organization, either business or social, I like to take an active leadership role to help the organization move forward.

Another reason is I would like to help lead the Division by example in our motto of Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity. It's lost a bit of it's luster at times these past 2 years. I understand some of the reasons why and feel I can be a conduit to bring the Division members back together through relationship building.

Any specific Goals you plan as an Officer:
My primary goal is to have a unified Division, with all Brothers being active within the Division and in the Irish community at large, working for the common good of the Order. I'd like to see more participation in volunteer and charity work, such as Habitat for Humanity, Catholic parish needs, and soup kitchens during the holidays. I'll step up in an organizational role for these events.

I'd like us to be more visible in the parishes to help with recruitment.

A lot of hard work has been put in by the leaders of our Division in the past 5 years. The membership has tripled because of the leadership we have had and the quality of people that have joined. Let's take to the next level. I'd like to see a place of our own soon. We'll need to triple our membership to make it viable.

Thank you for your support.

Vice President
Patrick Miller

Qualifications for Office:
Major Degree 2008, Chairman of the AOH "Freedom for All Ireland" Committee, 2007-2008.

Reasons you want to be an Officer of the AOH:
Our Division has grown impressively and we owe a great debt to the officers of the past few administrations. What comes with our success is new needs and a supplementation of our strategies. I want to assist our Division in achieving this next level and, equally importantly, to serve the needs of our current membership and our Irish Catholic Community.

Any specific Goals you plan as an Officer:
Our members tend to be of three major interest groups...many, if not all, members seem to have all three interests but with various concentrations. All are excellent, even in extreme isolation but our Division has to support and serve each domain equally well...and I don't think we currently do.

Social Irish-We excel, and are infamous, for our penchant for having a good time. Often, to our additional credit, our social events benefit one or more charities.

Religious Irish- We are all, be definition, Catholic. However, as a brotherhood we plan on going to Mass together once a year. With little to no outreach to the diocese or any parish in between...as the AOH. I think we could do better here. We could have quarterly Masses at various parishs of our members. We could have a committee that interacts with the diocese and Catholic Charities

Nationalistic Irish-I fall within this group pretty solidly and while talking to many brothers and witnessing their eyes glaze over as talk about it, I know that Irish politics and the occupation of northern Ireland does not interest all our brothers. Understandable. I have fully appreciated and enjoyed John's regular presentations and, as the current chairman of the "Freedom for all Ireland" Committee have wanted to also have a moment of our meeting time to say a few words about what is going on in the occupied territory. Unfortunately, our agenda has not yet been able to support this.

In short, brothers, we can expand the breadth of our activities to support the various core interests of our membership and strongly demonstrate Friendship, Unity, and True Christian Charity among and within them.

This is what I would like to do. (And plus, who want TWO O'Reilly's as officers!?)

All members, not just officers should strive for a united Ireland 26+6=1.I would work to increase membership, sothat some day we can have our own facility.Continue to work with the Irish community to bring more awareness to our heritage & to have the AOH become more active in local charitable acts.Get our newer members more involved in our activities. My goals are to involve as many NEW members with present membership in the formation of all committees to grow our organazation.

Any specific Goals you plan as an Officer:
I hope to spend next year forming our most important committee; fundraising and membership; many members have approached me and expressed an intrest in working on this committee. I thank you for your past and continuioued support

President
John Grattan

Qualifications for Office:
AOH member with Major Degree for several years. Worked on many AOH committees, ran overall committee efforts for 1+ years, and received "Outstanding Brother" Award for those efforts. Have an MBA from the U. of Michigan and have led a number of organizations, including several at Xerox and AT&T, and as President of the West Irondequoit Board of Education and President of the Rochester Irish Children's Program (ICP). Also coached kids soccer for 15+ years.

Reasons you want to be an Officer of the AOH:
Our present and past leadership have done a great job building ourorganization to the point where we can now accomplish a great deal more.I want to help us "be all that we can be" - in terms of both charity and fun -- and without overly burdening member's time. I believe I know how to do this.

Any specific Goals you plan as an Officer:
There are 4 things we should do to "be all that we can be".:

1. Increase Charitable works, both in terms of giving money and "hands on" work. This is important by itself, and enables fund raising, membership and fun.

2. Increase Fund-raising; think in the high tens-of-thousands a year. Funds enable charitable work and our own facility (when we have sufficient size and money)

3. Grow Membership. To increase our charitable good works and fund raising, without overburdening current members.

4. Fun. Continue to have fun and enjoy our heritage, the group, and good works.

These goals are highly interdependent. We can't do one without doing them all, and we can do them all without overly burdening anyone's time.

Financial Secretary
Tom Cahill

Qualifications for Office:
I understand the requirements of the position having held it for the past few years. I also understand the infrastructure of the AOH; National, State and Local. I have participated at some level in almost all AOH Activities. I directed preparation of the State Convention Official Program. I have worked on and actually organized and directed AOH Golf Tournament for the last six years

Reasons you want to be an Officer of the AOH:
I think we have made good progress over the past few years both by increasing membership and membership participation in the activities and governance of the organization. I want to help continue that progress. I feel we need to increase our presence in the community in general. I also think that we need to improve our charitable works with hands on participation not just providing funds. I fell I can provide leadership in these areas

Any specific Goals you plan as an Officer:
My specific goals would be to continue increase our base membership. I would also work to continue to improve our much improved communication process with the membership.
