After a few years experience, are you still committed to a career in teaching? Are you eager to keep growing professionally? Would you like to network with other science educators? Are you willing to take a leadership role in Section activities? If so, Central Western Section is offering you an opportunity to do all this!
We are offering a competitive grant (similar to the STANYS Fellows New Teacher Conference Award) that will support your attendance at the STANYS Annual Conference in Rochester, November (1) 2--4. The grant covers room and board (standard double rate), and registration (but not transportation). In return, you are expected to serve on a CWS Committee such as Science Congress or Science Exploration Days. We hope this opportunity will facilitate your professional growth as a teacher and leader in science education.
To be selected, you must meet the following criteria:
In the letter of application please address the following questions: Why do you wish to attend the STANYS conference? How will this award help you?
Please include your home and school addresses, phone numbers, e-mail address, grade level and courses taught. Enclose a STANYS membership form and check if necessary.
The recommendation from the principal or department leader should include comments concerning the following: How will the applicant’s attendance at the conference benefit your district? Verification that the applicant is permanently certified to teach science, is beginning the fourth through eighth year of teaching, and will be released to attend the full conference.
